this mattered was created during a MALFunction residency at CU’s Media Archaeology Lab Residency. The work draws from underlines, highlights, annotations, and other marginalia found throughout the Lab's collection of computing texts. Treated as traces of previous engagement rather than commentary, these marks are removed from their original context and sequenced into a moving composition, transforming individual acts of reading into a visual poem.

Presented in two parts, the work first assembles scanned fragments of marginalia into a continuous flow. The second reconstructs selected passages through the repetitive act of typing, erasing, and retyping on a 1970s CRT terminal, where language continually appears and disappears. Together, the works become an archaeology of attention—a meditation on memory, presence, and the quiet persistence of what someone once found worth noticing.
