The Visionaria’s Perspective // Vox Project [Peru]
As a participatory photography project, we champion each girls’ vision and experience through photography and self-reflection. As such, below you will find the images which capture their experience.
The VOX Project is a nonprofit organization that utilizes the power of photography as an affordable, accessible, tool for agency-based empowerment. Through still and motion photography, we work with underrepresented youth to explore their realities while championing their expression. Populations we’ve worked with in the past include refugees, homeless youth, Latina students, prisoners, and adolescent indigenous females. The process draws from participatory action research and builds computing skills through direct exposure and engagement to photographic equipment, computers, and website design as well as intangible skills including confidence, agency, leadership, and visioning.
Chris founded The Vox Project in 2013 during his time as a graduate student at CU, Boulder and continues to direct, manage, and facilitate projects.
We primarily work with other non-profits on thematic education and/or enrichment projects ranging from six months to several years in length. We are based out of Boulder, CO, yet conduct projects domestically and abroad.
